Writing was Tough with Covid-19 Around The Corner

Why I stopped writing and why I’m back!

I love writing. It’s not only my job but also my hobby. It’s cathartic — writing lets me explore how I feel about things — and people like to read it!

But I haven’t written for a couple of weeks.

As I’ve watched social restrictions and lockdowns spread through Europe and towards the UK I have been experiencing writing paralysis at the exact time I expected to need to write.

“Why, Rachel?” I hear you ask. Well, I’ll tell you.

  • I don’t want to spread misinformation. There’s enough of that already.
    The virus spread around the world so fast that the information about it was out of date almost as soon as it was written. Anything I wrote was likely to be old by the time it was read, and risk causing harm.
  • I am not a doctor. I’m not a scientist. I don’t specialise in immunology or virus research. Not to say I’m not clever, you understand. I’m a very smart little cookie — but in terms of virus protection, I’m about as useful as an empty bottle of hand sanitiser.
  • When I want information about this crazy situation we’re in, I look at the information from the World Health Organisation (are they called that in non-English speaking countries?)and the…
